The short answer
EPC expresses average earnings per click. To calculate an approved-conversion EPC, divide the affiliate commissions from accepted conversions by clicks in the matching scope. State the currency, reporting period, conversion status and definition of a click. A catalogue estimate, a recorded sale and a payment received are different observations and should not share an ambiguous label.

Define the metric before inspecting the number
The general EPC formula is revenue divided by clicks, as described in Voluum's glossary. Applying that formula is easy; deciding what belongs in each input is the operational challenge. One report may use all payouts recorded by a tracker while another includes only commissions accepted by the network. Both calculations can be mathematically correct while answering different questions. A bare number cannot establish that two campaigns, publishers or traffic sources were evaluated on the same basis.
Give the report an explicit definition. For example, label it approved affiliate commission per attributed campaign click, in US dollars. Add the reporting dates, time zone and time at which conversion statuses were checked. This short specification helps a colleague reproduce the result instead of guessing how a dashboard was filtered. It also prevents a catalogue EPC, which may describe a different population or be an estimate, from being mistaken for a forecast of your own creative, placement or audience.
Use the affiliate commission rather than the order total
For a CPA programme, the amount paid by the customer need not equal the affiliate's remuneration. Do not substitute an order value simply because it appears in a technical event. Identify the payout that applies to the accepted conversion under the campaign conditions. If the payout changed during the reporting period, multiplying every conversion by today's CPA may rewrite the economics of earlier activity. Use the available historical commission detail, or state clearly that a reconstruction is approximate and requires confirmation.
Consider an illustrative example, not actual Cash Nutra results. A campaign receives 1,000 clicks and records eight approved conversions paying 80 dollars each. Approved commission is 640 dollars, giving an approved EPC of 0.64 dollars per click. Two additional conversions awaiting a decision are not added to that numerator. Keep their count and provisional amount in separate columns. That makes the unresolved activity visible without presenting a possible future approval as earnings already included in the approved figure.
Match the click denominator to the journey
An advertisement click, a prelander visit and a click from that page to the offer can be separate events in one journey. Their counts are not interchangeable. Comparing commission per outbound prelander click with the price of an advertisement click mixes two bases. Record the stages independently and establish a common basis before comparing earnings with acquisition cost. A change in the proportion of visitors reaching the offer can affect the relationship even when the campaign payout itself stays unchanged.
List the filters that define the population: market, device, traffic source, placement, page variant and campaign identifier. Do not divide earnings from several countries by clicks from only one. If two systems disagree on click volume, investigate the event definitions, exclusions and selected periods first. Do not edit one count until the reports appear to agree. The most favourable denominator is not necessarily the correct denominator, and a measurement discrepancy needs an explanation rather than a cosmetic adjustment.
Separate the click period from the approval date
A conversion approved today may originate from an earlier click. To study traffic quality over a period, one useful approach is to follow a cohort: clicks from a defined date range and the conversions attributed to them, with status observed at a stated later date. To understand administrative activity, another report can count approval decisions made this week. Both views can be useful. They should not carry the same label or be compared as though they measured identical activity.
For instance, document that clicks from days one through seven are being evaluated on day fourteen. Revisit the same cohort later to see whether the result changes as decisions arrive. This is a proposed reporting practice, not a statement about any programme's contractual approval time. Ask the programme owner how decisions and later corrections work. A recent segment containing unresolved conversions should not be compared without qualification against an older segment whose outcomes are already known.
Keep EPC, operating result and cash flow separate
EPC alone does not account for every cost of running the activity. Comparing it with average click cost can provide an initial view if the populations match, but creative production, translation, tools and operating work still need separate treatment. In the fictional example above, 500 dollars of media expenditure would leave a 140-dollar difference before those other expenses. That difference is not a complete measure of company profit, and it should not be used as a promise about the next test.
An approved commission is also different from money received. Settlement dates, thresholds, reviews and payment arrangements depend on the agreed partner terms. A cash-flow report tracks actual receipts and expenditure, while a performance report follows the events and remuneration selected in its definition. Mixing these views can make funds appear available before settlement has occurred. Maintain a way to reconcile the reports, but do not change the EPC definition simply to make a timing difference disappear.
Turn the report into a limited next decision
A useful review includes click volume, conversions by status, approved commission, EPC, the observation period and measurement limitations. If there are no clicks, show that the ratio cannot be calculated instead of inventing a denominator. If clicks exist but no commission is approved, zero is a valid approved EPC for that observation. It does not automatically mean every pending conversion will be rejected. Show unresolved conversions and the planned review date so readers can distinguish a measured zero from a final outcome.
Before increasing volume, ask what the evidence actually supports. A few conversions cannot describe all the variation in a source. One creative, an unusual day or a destination change may account for part of the observed result. Choose a bounded next action with a review date and clear stopping conditions, instead of interpreting the largest EPC as an instruction to scale. To explore Cash Nutra, review the catalogue and prepare your application together with questions about remuneration, conversion approval and the tracking setup you intend to use.
Before you launch
- State the earnings status, currency, dates and exact definition of a click.
- Use the applicable affiliate commission instead of the customer's order total.
- Keep approved, pending and rejected conversions in separate columns.
- Match campaign, market, source and cohort across numerator and denominator.
- Record limitations and distinguish approved commissions from payments received.
Frequently asked questions
Can I treat a catalogue EPC as a forecast?
It can help frame a comparison if its definition is known, but it does not predict your outcome. Your audience, traffic source, journey and approval conditions still require their own evaluation.
Should pending conversions be included in approved EPC?
No. A metric labelled approved EPC uses accepted remuneration. Present pending activity separately and state when the status was observed so the reader understands what is still unresolved.
What should I display if the reporting period has no clicks?
The ratio cannot be calculated with a zero denominator. Show that the click basis is missing and check the filters rather than inventing an average or silently inserting an estimate.
